Dizziness and disequilibrium are one of the most common occurrences for adults over 40 and so many people seek relief by scheduling numerous doctor visits. We have found that physical therapy through vestibular rehabilitation is a very effective form of treatment to disable dizziness and vertigo.
Vertigo is described as a brief episode of head spinning every time your head moves into a specific position. This disorder can be caused by trauma to the head or an acute infection. However, it is very common for the cause to be unknown. All of our patients will receive a musculoskeletal exam to determine contributing effects of change in muscle strength, flexibility, and range of motion with regards to balance.
At FTG Physical Therapy, we use infrared video goggles to assess abnormal eye movements to aid in accurate diagnosis and treatment. The treatment techniques that we have found effective include:
- Canalith Repositioning Techniques for Anterior, Posterior and Horizontal Canals
- VOR Adaptation and Habituation Exercises
- Balance Re-Education
- Gait Training and Recommendations for Assistive Devices
- Education in Fall Prevention and Safety
- General Conditioning, Strengthening and ROM
- Relaxation Techniques & Soft Tissue Mobilization
- Motion Sensitivity Habituation
Many patients have found that they have overcome disabling dizziness and vertigo after only one session of vestibular rehabilitation. FTG Physical Therapy’s goal is to get you feeling your best as soon as possible.
If you currently are facing chronic imbalance, BPPV, post concussion syndrome, Post-CVA and other neurological disorders, motion sensitivity, or unilateral and bilateral vestibular loss, vestibular rehabilitation may give you the relief you need. Give FTG Physical Therapy a call and we will create a treatment plan that suits your needs.
